Abstract: The eigenvalue problem for the fourth-order differential equation simulating the free transverse oscillations of a strongly inhomogeneous elastic beam is studied numerically and analytically. The lowest modes of oscillations that are of interest in applications are sought.
Key words: Sturm–Liouville problem, transverse oscillations, advanced convergence method, local inhomogeneity.
