On the evolution of the motion of a heavy symmetric body carrying viscoelastic bars

V. G. Vil'ke
Abstract: A symmetric body rotates around the mass centre. Two viscous elastic bars are in the equatorial plane of the inertia ellipsoid and deformed under the action of weight. Approximate equations are obtained by the averaging method and describe the evolution of the motion of the body using the Andoyer–Depri variables. The motion of the body tends to stationary rotation around the vertical axis which either coincides with the symmetry axis of the body or with the orthogonal to that axis.
