Simple waves in a nonlinearly elastic medium

È. V. Lenskii
Abstract: The paper deals with properties of a simple waves propagating in an isotropic non-linearly elastic medium whose elastic potential is determined, by two arbitrary functions of the first and second invariants of the small strain tensor. The prestrain is arbitrary. A generalized definition of quasi-longitudinal and quasi-transverse waves is proposed involving the property of strict hyperbolicity of a system.
