A comparison of explicit and implicit numerical methods for solving groundwater flow problems

I. A. Rastorguev

Russian Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute", Moscow
Abstract: The following three tests of the DUMKA algorithm are presented in the paper: a comparison with the analytical solution of a model problem, a comparison of CPU-time cost with the VS2D program for a model of groundwater flow in a confined aquifer (the linear problem), and a comparison of CPU-time cost with the VS2D program for a nonlinear model of groundwater flow in an unconfined aquifer with consideration of an unsaturated zone (the nonlinear problem).
Keywords: filtration, saturated/unsaturated zone, Van Genuchten equation, stiff differential equations, free-flow aquifer.
