A deterministic particle-in-cell method for solving the problems of rarefied gas dynamics. Part I

E. A. Malkov, M. S. Ivanov

Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk
Abstract: A method for the numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation is proposed. The method belongs to the family of deterministic particle-in-cell methods. Some numerical results of its application to the homogeneous relaxation of a gas are discussed. The development of such a method becomes feasible due to the possibility of representing the collision integral in divergent form.
Keywords: rarefied gas dynamics; Boltzmann equation; numerical methods.
