A finite-difference scheme for computing axisymmetric plasma oscillations

A. V. Popov, E. V. Chizhonkov

M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics
Abstract: A new finite-difference scheme in the Euler variables is proposed for computing axisymmetric plasma oscillations. The proposed scheme is based on the splitting into physical processes and on the time discretization used in the Lax–Wendroff scheme. With the aid of this scheme, the dynamics of oscillations is modeled for the first time in the Euler variables up to the instant of their breaking.
Keywords: plasma oscillations; wake waves; breaking; finite-difference method; splitting into physical processes; Lax–Wendroff scheme; axial solution.
