Abstract: The article analyzes methods for constructing data collection systems on the state of a natural area and reveals drawbacks of different monitoring systems. Taking into account the peculiarities of the terrain of the natural territory, the use of this method is limited by the time and accuracy of the preparation of the project with a large number of nodes. In terms of the revealed limitations, an automated method of information processing was proposed during the formation of the topology of the monitoring system for natural areas based on the application of the principles of constructing Mesh networks. The method is to use the geoinformation system to obtain the input conditions necessary for forming the network topology. After the information is collected, it is processed by methods based on the use of genetic algorithms. As a result of the work of the methodology, a number of variants of building the network topology are formed. From the set of variants, the topology most appropriate to the requirements of the network operation is selected with the given initial data for calculation. After the automatic formation of the topology, the designer can adjust the result of the calculation taking into account his own experience in designing systems for collecting, processing and transmitting information. The methodology allows to form several variants of the topology of the system with different numbers of information collection nodes and to choose the most appropriate network structure for implementation on a given natural territory.
