The Cotton–Mouton effect under resonant interaction between extremely short pulses and multilevel media

Abstract:
The article deals with an analog of the Cotton–Mouton effect for extremely short pulses. Under the assumption that the pulse spectrum overlaps all quantum transition frequencies, the system of nonlinear wave equations describing the pulse propagation in the direction perpendicular to the external magnetic field is derived. The nonlinear transparency regimes and the soliton-like dynamics are demonstrated.
