Abstract:
The possibilities of multi-channel storage and read-out of information in impure solids with controlled non-homogeneous broadening is analyzed. The division of channels is achieved by redistribution of the ions within a resonant line under application of an external field. It is shown that in random media (such as impure glasses) the multi-channel processing of information is possible by the use of a spatially homogeneous external field with variable orientation. The maximum number of channels for a given signal-to-noise ratio is estimated.
