Lamb Shift of Atoms in Photonic Crystals

Abstract:
The problem of interaction of an atom in a photonic crystal with its own radiation field is investigated. It is shown that the Lamb shift of the energy levels of an atom in a photonic crystal is significantly different from that of atoms in vacuum. The effects of the dispersion relations on the Lamb shift of atoms in photonic crystal are discussed.
