Abstract: In the years 1934—1968, when he worked in the USA, Gamow developed the Big Bang theory and suggested an idea deciphering the genetic code. These were his main scientific achievements in the period in question. He also tackled the problem of nuclear sources of stellar energy. From 1948 he participated in the construction of the American hydrogen bomb. He wrote over twenty science and popular science books.
