Paradoxes of gas mixing

I. P. Bazarov

Lomonosov Moscow State University
Abstract: A unified explanation of the Gibbs and Einstein paradoxes and of a new paradox in the mixing of quantum ideal gases is given. It is shown that all three paradoxes are due to the same physical cause–the corresponding discontinuity in the partial density on going from mixing of different gases to mixing of identical gases.
