Abstract:
The present understanding of the origin and properties of the Solar system is discussed and what is known about extrasolar planets is reviewed. The current status of and future prospects for space exploration in Russia and elsewhere are examined. (This paper is an extended version of “Prospects for the Russian research program on Solar system physical processes” by L.M. Zelenyi, presented at the scientific session “Prospects for the development of fundamental physics and astronomy” at the RAS Physical Sciences Division general meeting held 15 December 2008.)
