On the existence and physical meaning of the Zenneck wave

Abstract:
The physical meaning of the Zenneck wave is discussed. Basic modal functions whose full spectra do not feature such a wave are shown to exist. Questions concerning setup requirements for proof-of-concept experiments are addressed.
