Physics at the Large Hadron Collider
I. M. Dremin P. N. Lebedev Physical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract:
The research program underway at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is quite impressive. Four major experimental facilities are operational to compete in collecting and processing data on hadton collisions at very high energies in the hope of answering the deepest and most fundamental questions ever asked concerning the structure of matter and space-time and what forces act in matter. The LHC accelerator and its four detectors are briefly described. Earlier information from other accelerators is presented. The key problems facing LHC research are identified and the succession in which they should be approached is discussed. Future prospects for high-energy physics are briefly considered.
