Abstract:
The development of charge exchange injection technology at the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, mastering charge exchange injection at research centers worldwide, and the experimenta observation, explanation, and damping of electron–proton instability (electron cloud effect) are overviewed. Techniques for preparing a circulating proton beam whose intensity is an order of magnitude higher than the space-charge limit are considered. Problems with stripping-foil stability in the process of injection of intense beams and laser ionization of accelerated atoms are also discussed.
