REVIEWS OF TOPICAL PROBLEMS

Carbon nanotubes

A. V. Eletskii

Russian Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute", Moscow
Abstract: A review is presented of the current knowledge of carbon nanotubes—cylindrical particles made of one or several concentric graphite layers. Nanotube fabrication techniques are considered and possible nanotube structures analyzed. Data on their electrical and magnetic properties are presented. The relation between nanotube electrical properties and structure (in particular, chirality) is emphasized. Potential applications in nanoelectronics and other active areas of research and technology are discussed.
