REVIEWS OF TOPICAL PROBLEMS

The stimulated Cherenkov effect

V. M. Arutyunyan, S. G. Oganesyan

Research and Production Company Lasernaya Tekhnika, Erevan
Abstract: The interaction between free electrons and a laser field in an unbounded dielectric medium and above the surface of a dielectric waveguide is discussed in detail. Both classical and quantum approaches are applied. The feasibilities of modulation and polarisation of an electron beam by laser radiation are also discussed. Theories of the Cherenkov laser and Cherenkov klystron are developed.
