Contribution of negative-ions to continuum spectra of plasmas

Abstract: The absorption coefficients associated with electronic transitions in the field of the positive ion and associated with photodetachment are compared and the range of plasma parameters over which the latter process is important is examined. The role of excited states of negative ions is considered and the contribution of unstable negative ions to the continuum spectra of a plasma is discussed.
