Thermophysical Properties of Materials

The critical point: theory and experiment

I. I. Novikov

A. Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Russian Academy of Sciences
Abstract: It is demonstrated that the Gibbs concept of the critical state and the equations for the critical point formulated by him make it possible to provide a complete description the peculiarities of the behavior and properties of matter at the critical point. The general theory of the critical state is based on the Gibbs equations for the critical state and their corollaries. Theoretical conclusions are fully validated by the experimental data.
