Determination of specific heat in experiments with pulsed electric heating
A. V. Kostanovskii, M. E. Kostanovskaya Joint Institute for High Temperatures, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract:
The temperature dependences of the specific heat of the solid phase of niobium and molybdenum, calculated based on the experimental data obtained by the pulsed electric heating of thin wires at a temperature change rate of $\sim10^7$ K/s, are presented. It is shown that the temperature dependences of the specific heat depend on the sign of the time derivative of the input electric power. The experimental results are qualitatively confirmed by the analysis carried out based on the analytical dependences for dimensionless temperature corresponding to the problem of heating an unbounded cylinder by internal continuously operating heat sources under boundary conditions of the second kind. Two cases are considered: the internal heat sources are constant and depend linearly on time. It is concluded that it is correct to measure the nonstationary thermal mode specific heat in the absence of internal heat sources.
