Abstract: To solve the problems of design and operational management of fiber-optic communication systems a value of error probability in subdetector area sometimes is necessary. Optimization of transmission systems for this parameter is particularly relevant for fragments of all-optical networks. In article, the estimation of bit error probability is presented for the worst case of optical signal processing. The obtained analytical model was the basis of a method for estimating the possibility of using multi-level optical signals in fiber-optic communication systems. The method allows to determine the suitability of a given transmission system reliability receive signals with a given size of the ensemble.
