Abstract:
An analogy is established between the zitterbewegung of a relativistic electron in Dirac's theory and the motion of a band electron in a system of two lattice points. In the case of a homogeneous static electric field the energy spectrum and indeterminacy of the wave mmnber are established by a Bogolyubov transformation. Lower limits for the effective mass of the band electron and its polarizability are determined.
