Abstract:
A variational principle is used to construct nonconserved operators in field theory. The operators are generated by infinitesimal transformations which do not Ieave the Lagrangian
invariant. Nonconserved operators and operator equations corresponding to translational,
conformal, and phase transformations are constructed as examples. Nonconserved operators
corresponding to gauge transformations are also constructed.
