Two-dimensional ice-type vertex model with two types of staggered sites

Abstract: On a square lattice with two types of staggered site a two-dimensional vertex model which satisfies the ice condition is formulated. The free energy and polarization of the model in an external electric field are calculated exactly by means of the generalized Bethe hypothesis. An exact solution is obtained for the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the transfer matrix.
