Abstract:
A general expression is obtained for the self-interaction force for an arbitrarily moving charged particle in the field of an infinitesimally thin straight cosmic string. The case of a particle at rest is analyzed in detail. In this case, the self-interaction force for a supermassive string can take arbitrarily large values. A physical interpretation of the results is given.
