Abstract: We consider a variational problem equivalent to the hyperchain approximation for the binary (radial) function in the classical theory of liquids and show that the additional condition including the direct correlation function in the functional along with the total correlation function can be taken into account if both these functions are considered independent for a suitable modification of the varied functional.
Keywords: distribution, total correlation, direct correlation, variational principle, direct method.
