Abstract: This article is devoted to fundamental problems, which originate from designing, implementation and using distributed file systems (DFS). There was accomplished comparative analysis of the most meaningful criteria of the most popular DFS having open design specifications. The work results in setting the main problems arising in the process of designing DFS that must be further studied and solved.
