The electroreduction of organic compounds in the presence of catalysts causing catalytic evolution of hydrogen and the electrosynthesis of chiral compounds

S. G. Mairanovskii

N. D. Zelinskii Institute of Organic Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow
Abstract: A critical examination has been made of the ideas about the mechanism of influence of catalysts for electrochemical catalytic hydrogen evolution (particularly alkaloids) on the electroreduction of various organic compounds and on the induction of optical activity when prochiral compounds participate the electrochemical reaction. Particular attention has been paid to processes occurring at electrodes modified by chiral compounds and to the preparation of optically active products in media containing asymmetric cosolvents. The bibliography includes 98 references.
