The verdazyl method for the study of the kinetics and mechanisms of the unimolecular heterolysis reactions of organic compounds

G. F. Dvorko, E. A. Ponomareva

Kiev Polytechnic Institute
Abstract: Data concerning the use of triphenylverdazyl radicals as internal indicators to study the kinetics and mechanisms of the heterolysis of organic substrates in various protic and aprotic solvents are surveyed. The application of the verdazyl method made it possible to put forward a new mechanism of the heterolysis of a covalent bond – the reaction proceeds via the consecutive formation of contact, spatially separated, and solvent-separated ion pairs. The bibliography includes 135 references.
