Abstract: The literature data on the kinetics and mechanism of the oxidation of organic compounds of various nature with hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution have been analysed. A generalised kinetic scheme is described for the radical–chain decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of organic compounds for which a rate equation for the process has been found by the method of quasi-steady-state concentrations for long chains. Partial expressions have been obtained for the rate of oxidation of various organic compounds with hydrogen peroxide allowing for the nature of the organic compound. The bibliography contains 85 references.
