Abstract: The data on asymmetric epoxidation that have been obtained in recent years are correlated. Particular attention is given to the epoxidation of allylic alcohols with Sharpless reagent, which is a chiral complex of a titanium alkoxide with dialkyl tartrate. The structure of the catalyst, a model of the transition state, and the reaction mechanism are examined. The bibliography includes 242 references.
