Activation of C–C bonds in unsaturated hydrocarbons by metal complexes

The current position of the problem of the activation of C–C bonds in alkanes and cycloalkanes is examined. The two main routes for the cleavage of unactivated single C–C bonds – metal-complex cleavage on an unsaturated coordinate metal site and electrophilic cleavage – are discussed. The literature data on the development of catalysts for the "low-temperature" cleavage of C–C bonds in alkanes are correlated.
