Abstract:
The characteristics of the mathematical modelling of chemical processes in the atmosphere, their relationship with geophysical processes, their classification in terms of space–time scales, and the sensitivity of the models are examined. The possibilities of modelling the photochemical mechanisms of the reactions of oxygen-, hydrogen-, nitrogen-, sulphur-, and carbon-containing compounds in the background atmosphere and in air in polluted regions and the selection of the parametrisation conditions in conformity with the aims of the given tasks and the hydrometeorological regime are analysed. The experience gained in the practical use of models of the quality of air in designing a monitoring strategy and measures for the protection of nature is surveyed. The bibliography includes 113 references.
