Expert evaluation of kinetic data for use in research on atmospheric modelling

J. A. Kerr

Federal Institute for Water Resources, Switzerland
Abstract: The development of data banks on chemical kinetics and photochemistry for use in modelling the atmosphere is examined. A table representing a compilation of data on the chemistry of the formation of stratospheric ozone in which the reactions are grouped into families (Ox, HOx, NOx, ClOx, and organic reactions) is published. An approach to the selection of the recommended values of kinetic and photochemical quantities, developed by CODATA/IUPAC experts, is described in detail. The review is completed by a brief discussion of the immediate prospects for the development of expert evaluations of data for atmospheric chemistry.
The bibliography includes 40 references.
