Polymer photostabilisers. Photophysical properties and stabilising efficiency

Abstract: The photophysical characteristics and luminescence-spectroscopic properties of molecules with a high photostabilising efficiency are examined. It is shown theoretically that the short lifetime and (or) low population of the triplet state of the molecule are essential (but not sufficient) conditions for its use as a photostabiliser. Both these conditions or one of them are fulfilled when systems in which non-radiative conversion processes, initiated by adiabatic reversible photochemical processes or systems with heavy atoms, are used. Experimental data confirming these postulates are presented.
