Abstract: Literature data published since 1971 on the addition of nucleophiles to the C=N bond of the most studied π-deficient six-membered heterocycles, viz. pyridine, pyrimidine and 1,3,5-triazine leading to their transformation have been examined and correlated. Possible applications and proposed mechanisms for the considered processes have been discussed.
