Abstract: Structures, taxonomic distribution and biological activities of polar steroids isolated from various marine organisms over the last 8–10 years are considered. The peculiarities of steroid biogenesis in the marine biota and their possible biological functions are discussed. Syntheses of some highly active marine polar steroids are described. The bibliography includes 254 references.
