Abstract: Synthetic approaches to phthalocyanines with extended $\pi$-electron conjugated system are considered. Compounds of planar and sandwich structures having intense absorption in the near-IR spectral region are presented. Particular attention is devoted to the electronic absorption spectra of these systems and elucidation of correlations between the spectra and the structure.
