Abstract: The published data on the complexation of chemically modified carbohydrates (acetalated and acetylated monosaccharides, carbohydrate podands and coronands as well as nitrogen-, phosphorus-, sulfur- and selenium-containing monosaccharide derivatives) are generalised and systematised. The structural diversity of the metal complexes formed is demonstrated and the effect of the ligand chirality on the chiralities of the corresponding coordination points is discussed. The bibliography includes 155 references.
