Abstract:
The most recent results of research and development in the field of enzyme-based biosensors for determination of pesticides are presented. The possibilities of pesticide quantification via enzyme inhibition by pesticides, hydrolysis of pesticides by various enzymes or redox reactions involving enzymes are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the use of single enzymes both in the soluble and immobilized forms and to application of combinations of several enzymes catalyzing successive reactions to improve the determination. Among enzyme-based biosensors for pesticide determination, analytical systems successfully utilizing enzymes within microbial cells are surveyed. The recently achieved characteristics of enzyme-based biosensors are presented and further prospects for their development are discussed.
