Abstract:
The data published mainly over two past decades on various types of biological activity of 5-functionally substituted 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-ones and their analogues, 2-thiones and 2-imines, and more complex dihydropyrimidine derivatives are summarized. Apart from medicinal chemistry issues, including structure–activity relationships, the pharmacological profiles of the most promising derivatives and the routes for further structural modification of known chemical compounds are discussed in general terms. Examples of potential uses of new compounds in medicine as single pharmaceutical agents and as parts of compositions are given.
The bibliography includes 334 references.
