Abstract: The result of electrochemical studies of homo- and hetero-ligand sandwich as well as bent sandwich biscyclopentadienyl complexes of transition metals are surveyed and described systematically. The existence of a linear relation between the redox potentials of these complexes and the gas-phase ionisation potentials of the corresponding metals and their ions is demonstrated. The electrochemical reactions catalysed by sandwich and bent sandwich complexes and the possibilities of the electrochemical synthesis of the above complexes and metal complex catalysts based on them are examined.
