The introduction of functional groups into unsaturated systems by carbonyl compounds in the presence of manganese(III) acetate

The review is devoted to the reactions of unsaturated systems (alkenes, alkynes, arenes, alkadienes, and alkenynes) with carbonyl compounds (aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and α-, β-, γ-, and δ-dicarbonyl compounds) initiated by manganese(III) acetate. Attention is concentrated on the regio- and stereo-chemistry of the interaction, the pathways leading to the stabilisation of the intermediate radical-adducts, and also the assessment of the synthetic possibilities of reactions of the given type.
