Abstract:
The structures of organosilicon compounds in which the coordination number of silicon is other than 4 are examined. Derivatives of pentacoordinate silicon, in which silicon has a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry, have been most thoroughly investigated among them. Appreciably much less information is available about the unstable derivatives of tricoordinate silicon, whose structure is close to being planar. Examples of compounds in which the coordination number of silicon is greater than five are also examined. Attention is concentrated on the geometry of compounds with an increased coordination number of silicon atoms as intermediates in chemical reactions. The bibliography includes 111 references.
