Abstract: Experimental data on the anisotropy of the magnetic susceptibilities of molecules and complexes have been summarised and systematised. A tensor additive scheme for the magnetic susceptibilities of the chemical bonds and groups of atoms in diamagnetic compounds has been developed. The application of the additive scheme to the analysis of the effects of the mutual influence of atoms, the problem of aromaticity, conformational structure, solvation, and complex formation has been examined.
