Abstract: Certain characteristics of carbothermal processes involving the reduction of refractory oxides to the metal are surveyed with allowance for the structure of the outer and penultimate electron shells. The similarity and difference between the kinetics and mechanisms of reactions on the surfaces of the metal oxides and the carbon reductant are analysed.
The bibliography includes 147 references.
