Abstract: The review surveys data on the addition of HO-nucleophiles (water, oximes, hydroxylamines, hydroxamic acids, alcohols) to nitriles. Main methods for C≡N bond activation in nucleophilic addition reactions are discussed. Particular attention is given to activation of nitriles through coordination to metal centres.
