Abstract:
The principles of the dissociation of water molecules in membrane systems containing cation-exchange, anion-exchange, and dipolar membranes are examined. The characteristics of the attainment of the limiting state at the membrane–solution boundary and the differences in the behaviour of cation-exchange and anion-exchange membranes are discussed from the standpoint of the possibility of the dissociation of water at the interfaces. The mechanisms and the kinetics of the dissociation of water in membrane systems involving catalytically active centres are considered. The bibliography includes 87 references.
