Abstract: The physicochemical characteristics of polyacetylene and its charge-transfer complexes have been examined. Data on the structural, electrical, magnetic, and optical properties have been discussed from a single viewpoint. Particular attention has been paid to a critical analysis of the soliton concept in relation to the structural and electrophysical properties. The probable mechanisms of the conductivity of polyacetylene have been examined.
